Avoiding Head Injuries

It seems obvious that anyone would want to avoid head injuries when playing any kind of sport. But surprisingly in Ice Hockey, many players take the risk and wear improper head gear or none at all. This can lead to concussions or other worse injuries.

Most old school players are culprits when it comes to insufficient head gear. However, they are somewhat justified because in the old days, Ice Hockey did not have such a high risk of head injuries occurring. Not wearing a helmet allowed them greater visibility and hearing, so they feel that wearing one would impair these senses. But unfortunately for them, the game has progressed far and fast.

Players have improved tremendously and slap shots and wrist shots have gone to another level. This is mostly because of the advances in technology. Curved blades and composite material in Hockey Sticks have made the game so much faster, that reaction times need to be lightning fast in order for injuries to be averted. Unfortunately, in many instances humans do not possess reflexes like that.

This is why good head gear is imperative in the world of Ice Hockey. When choosing equipment, always opt for quality over price. Reputed brands have made a name for themselves based on quality and the level of testing they do on their equipment. All players have to realize that injuries are an ever present possibility. Protecting themselves from these injuries will help them enjoy the game to the fullest and for the longest time possible.
