It’s all in the family in NHL

Family reunions are nothing new to the NHL. The 2013 draft is no different. There were several family reunions due to the recent draft and here are few of the notables among those many reunions.

Detroit Red Wings selected Tyler Bertuzzi during the second round pick to join his uncle, Todd Bertuzzi, who serves the same team. Senior Bertuzzi joined NHL some 20 years ago with the New York Islanders.

A father and son affair take place in Phoenix similar to that is already in New Jersey. Goalie Brendan Burke will join father, Sean Burke, who is an Assistant to the General Manager of the team.

Who could forget the Subban brothers? The 2013 Norris Trophy winner, P.K., Vancouver Canucks player who was a second-round pick is already in the NHL. His brother Malcolm, a goaltender joined NHL team Boston Bruins as the 24th pick in 2012. Now the youngest brother, Jordan, joins NHL as a defenseman with the Belleville Bulls.

Andrew Cassels, 17th pick in 1987 played 1,015 games with six teams including Canucks since 1987. His son, Cole Cassels now joins Canucks as a third round pick. Son Cassels played for Oshawa Generals as center.
