The Bruins joined the NHL green initiative at the beginning of the season and partnered “Rock and wrap it up’ a program founded in 1991 to fight hunger, where prepared but unsold food leftover from rock concerts and gaming events are collected and redistributed to shelters. To date the Bruins have donated 4,950 meals and 6950 pounds of food to the Boston Rescue Mission.

This program not only feeds the poor, but it also keeps away a substantial amount of food from landfill.

Bob Sweeney received the award made out of 100% recyclable material on behalf of the bruins. The Bruins are the ninth NHL club to be recognized by the National Environment Protection Agency this year.
